Who am I?
Like most people, I wear many hats:
- Grateful Christian - for all the rest of the things that follow and so much more.
- Daughter to a mother who started my Christian walk from an early age, who demonstrated the value of determination, and who is still a mentally alert 93 year old, and a father who taught me the value of grace, an open mind, critical thinking and being non judgmental, while still standing firm for one's beliefs.
- Wife to a wonderful husband who has been my soulmate since 1980.
- Mother to 3 children, now grown up, with whom I have enjoyed an excellent relationship throughout their lives, and still enjoy sharing with them.
- Veterinarian since 1979 - starting with large animals and now focused on small animals. Website coming soon.
- Volunteer for our church, doing the website and helping out wherever I can. www.goodshepherdenglehart.org
- Dog owner and trainer - starting in my early years and still enjoying the fun of working with my pets. Our current population being a 10 year old Shepherd/Lab, Anakin, 7 year old Whippet, Rocky, and our newest addition - a Miniature Schnauzer, Luke, born Sept 08. Currently working in agility with Luke and Anakin.
- Horse breeder, owner, coach and rider of the hypoallergenic Curly horse - now down to 4 horses for our pleasure. www.curlyhorses.net
- Cat servant to the very independant and demanding Schaeffer who keeps the household in line.
- Cancer survivor - diagnosed with an aggressive (8 on a scale to 9) Stage 4 HER +ve breast cancer with several metastases in July 2007 - currently with all body metastases gone and the remaining brain met shrinking rapidly post gamma radiation. Healthier now than ever before.
Why the website?
- When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer, it was hard to find a website which offered a lot of hope or strategies for someone with as aggressive and advanced a cancer as I had. My battle is not over, but the news is good. I would like to share the hope for successful remission with others who may be feeling overwhelmed with a recent diagnosis or recurrence. Life with cancer can be a wonderful opportunity to grow, and I would like to share my journey with others.
- To have a place I can refer people when they ask what I have done.
-
- A Bible passage that I find particularly relevant:
- Jer 29:11
- 'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'
- John 10:10
- '...... For I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.'

This was at our daughter's wedding, less than a month after the cancer diagnosis, and 10 days after the mastectomy. John's family came up and took the pressure off me so that the wedding was a wonderful event and fulfilled everyone's dreams. Having such strong family support makes a huge difference in outlook. Since this picture John's dad has also had a battle with colon cancer and survived some pretty bad odds. 2010 will be their 60th anniversary, our 30th, and John's sister's 40th, so we plan a big bash to celebrate.
